Versace presented the latest Fall Winter 2021 menswear and womenswear collection today with a striking runway video. The Fall Winter 2021 season unfortunately due to the global pandemic is Versace’s only ready to wear collection presented behind the closed doors. Just as the rest of the fashion industry the label has opted for a no audience runway and a digital presentation due to safety measures. 

FALL WINTER 2021 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS

Before the runway show  Donatella Versace shared with the press: “Being a digital event has its advantages. One of them is the possibility of connecting with your audience whenever you think is the right moment. The decision to present the Fall/Winter 21 Collection a few days after the Milan Fashion Week doesn’t affect the fact that Versace remains a proud member of Camera della Moda and that the brand will always be a key player and a big supporter of the Italian fashion system. Fashion is an art and sometimes it has to work outside the usual path to fully blossom.”

The new collection also introduces the Versace maze print expected to become a new synonym of the fashion house. Present throughout the collection it is to remain a Versace staple just as the Medusa and the Barocco V have been for years now.

CELINE HOMME Fall Winter 2021 collection was presented at the fairy-tale like Château de Chambord in France. The label initially released only teaser images, and the runway film captured around the castle. The collection entitled ‘Teen Knight Poem‘ comes as one of the most end intricate by Hedi Slimane to date.

“‘90s and cold wave/goth accents meet in an adolescent parade. proportions — in the superposition of leather jackets and vests, in slope-shouldered bombers and coats — are a transposition of court portraits of françois ier and the french renaissance. Embroideries in stone and crystal, and chainmail on corselets or bombers, are realized in parisian couture and embroidery ateliers. The colors black and tan, and gold and silver, are those of 16th-century court and ceremonial dress, notably on the final look, realized by 23 embroiderers and requiring 1 300 hours of work,” adds CELINE press team while talking about the collection.

Thom Browne Menswear collection is composed with different varieties of designer’s flare for androgyny already mastered by him and his team. The elaborate collection was presented together with womenswear pieces in a fashion film featuring Alpine Sports legend Lindsey Vonn taking part in a Wizard of Oz reminiscent short film. Vonn joins the models on an Alpine ski trip for the short film directed by Carissa Gallo.

FALL WINTER 2021 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS

“The most angelical & fantastical dream that led me home,” adds Thom Browne simply describing his latest collection. Browne who spent years as head designer at Moncler‘s runway line has truly perfected the craft of Alpine fashion. Snow as an occuring theme of his Winter runway shows this time returned with a true mountain setting and a skiing experience. Browne regularly used snow as part of his winter set designs even at Moncler as well as his eponymous line runway shows.  The collection almost entirely black and white (minus Vonn’s golden boots) does not shy away from the times we are living in. Browne and his team have for the season conveyed intricate laced face masks, completely covering one’s face.

While the rest of the fashion industry focused on a more positive outlook of the Fall Winter 2021, seeing it as a pandemic free environment Browne and his theme prepared for a different outing. Perhaps the Thom Browne face covering will be more than just an ultimate fashion accessory come next Fall. One can only hope we won’t need the mask in six months for anything more than a fashion accessory.

The Premier League star Marcus Rashford takes the cover story of WSJ. Magazine‘s March 2021 Men’s Style edition lensed by fashion photography duo Inez & Vinoodh. In charge of styling was Clare Richardson.

I’m a person that’s still close to his community. I see people going through what I was going through when I was younger. I just understand it – Marcus Rashford 

Rashford’s mother, Melanie Maynard on her struggle to feed her family:
“I would never have allowed him to see the struggle,” she wrote in an email. “As much as you are embarrassed about what those outside of your immediate family circle think of you, I was embarrassed to admit to my own children the level of our struggle. It was normal back then to just sweep your issues under the rug, to hide them from sight. Having opened up more over the last year it’s evident Marcus saw more than I thought he did.”

Maynard on asking Manchester United to allow her son to move to their residential program early:
“No mum wants to make that decision, but I needed to do it so that Marcus could fulfill his dream. I really didn’t have a choice. Regardless of working three jobs, I couldn’t give him what he needed,” Maynard writes. “He wasn’t safe on the streets. I didn’t want him mixing with the wrong crowd and derailing him. He needed the nutrition to prepare himself for professional football. On my budget I just couldn’t give him that.”

Rashford on Manchester United’s academy system:
“They don’t just make great players. They make strong characters and good people. They prepare you for things that you don’t know would happen.”

Dwaine Maynard on Rashford’s desire to pay it forward:
For a while, Rashford was even in the habit of rolling down his car window to hand cash to kids or homeless people around Manchester, until his brothers, now his agents, explained that there were more constructive ways to help. “It’s actually not very safe for you to stop your car and do that,” Dane told him.

Dwaine on realizing how to scale up while visiting the Superbowl and the difference between the U.S vs. the U.K. for athletes:
“I think Americans are five years in advance of the U.K.,” Dwaine says before Dane goes even further. “In America, they’re not afraid to express their personalities; it’s not frowned upon.”

James Corden on Rashford’s scathing open letter to parliament laying out how they were letting the country’s neediest down:
“He did it in such a human way. This was, ‘They are hungry now, they are starving now, and they need help today,’” Corden says. “This isn’t some appeal film for a country that you’ve never visited. These kids are at the end of your street. And the government were ignoring them—it wasn’t good enough.” And here was guy with the full backing of Manchester United telling them so. “It’s really difficult if you’re the left back for Norwich City,” says Corden.

Rashford on how his outspokenness has turned him into a target:
“This generation seems to be judged more,” Rashford says. “What frustrates me is—how do I put it?—when people speak out on something they don’t have an understanding of. And at the beginning, that’s what was happening. I became sort of a bridge between the people that the government were supposed to be helping and the government. It’s like we’re going the long way round things,” he adds.
