Discover HENRIK VIBSKOV Fall Winter 2021.22 A Crisp Layer of Madness Collection, presented with a fashion film directed by Hörður Freyr Brynjarsson, on January 23rd, as part of the recently finished Digital Paris Fashion Week. The collection marks brand’s 20th anniversary, and explores the history of cake and its many visual expressions.

FALL WINTER 2021 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS

Besides being delicious, pastries has had a central role in the various celebrations of many cultures. From anniversaries to weddings and birthday parties, there is a certain ceremonial quality to sharing a piece of cake. Dissecting the process of baking from beginning to end, the team looked into cake as the coming together of different textures, colors, tools, ingredients, recipes, table settings and gatherings, drawing inspiration from the artistry of pastry chefs, grandma’s tablecloth and so much more.

The collection reflects the theme in various ways. The color palette combines the bright green of Jello cakes with the delicate colors of macaroons and silhouettes refers to hanging tablecloths, cake shapes and Victorian gowns. Knitwear have folky patterns of different slices of cake, and custom designed jacquards are inspired by whipped cream, creamy glaze and pie crust patterns. One block print depicts a storyline of items you might have left at the cake table, and one style program carries the embroidery of one of Vibskov’s mom’s own apple pie recipes. All fabrics and trims are evaluated based on their sustainable qualities, and the choices for the collection are made thereafter. The fabrics include organic cotton, recycled polyester and recycled PET bottles for padding in outerwear, Tencel made from upcycled cotton linter and cellulose fibers, European linen and virgin wool. Certificates also include BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) and GOTS, plus Økotex for colors, dyes and prints.

It is a refection of things that have been lost and garments that have never been forgotten. In our dreams, we stand in front of our childhood’s closet picking out the pieces we want to wear to school. In our bedrooms, we gaze at mail order catalogue mannequins and late night TV programs. In our fantasies, we combine our re-imagined wardrobe with an adult-content-way of dressing.

Key pieces feature naive cake paintings by Scott Csoke reworked in the brand’s atelier as mixed-media couture knitwear, hand-embroidered with ‘emotional stress’ statements. Corduroy ensembles, DIY denim, paisley prints and kid’s toy appliqués drawn by Humberto Cruz quote real-life memories. Furthermore, the infamous ‘piss stain’ pants from Lazoschmidl’s very frst collection entitled “Grand Poop” (2014) makes a return – as well as the butterfy, this time laser-cut into leather pieces.” – from Lazoschmidl

There’s nothing quite like being able to escape your everyday life without actually traveling. In fact, in recent months, being fortunate enough to live in Paris, I have rediscovered this incredibly inspiring city. During my regular morning strolls – with the collar of my coat raised and a steaming coffee-to-go pot in my hand – I savored my coffee in the streets of Paris, rather than enjoying it on the terrace of one of my favorite cafés in Saint-Germain-des-Près. Ideas eventually always come to me as I walk the streets of my city. Here, close to my home, my mind is stimulated by the promise of a new day, by the dawn of a cool morning – it is the beauty of the various districts of Paris which inspired this new collection. – Pierre Mahéo

This will come as no surprise to you: my fabrics this season are meant to convey a softer, and lighter yet warmer feeling. The linings of jackets, suits, and pants have a cashmere touch to them. Our fine Japanese jersey feels like a gentle caress, so to speak. The flannels of our shirts have been buffed. A few pieces from this collection are crafted from leather, and some are crafted from sheepskin turned inside out with the wool turned inwards. As for the waterproof fabrics, which are de facto always a little rigid, we have lined them with thermal wadding, which I prefer to any feather padding. – Pierre Mahéo

Football player turned actor John David Washington stars in the digital cover story of WSJ. Magazine lensed by fashion photographer Rahim Fortune. In charge of styling was Samantha McMillen.

I always wanted to do what he (Denzel Washington – his dad) did, always wanted to be an artist, I jumped in and hid in this football persona, this athlete, literally putting on a helmet to hide my face, hide my identity – John David Washington

JDW on keeping his audition for Ballers a secret from his dad:
He kept his 2014 audition for Ballers a secret from his father until he learned he’d landed the role of NFL wide receiver Ricky Jerret. “I just wanted to prove to myself that I could do it,” Washington says. “I’ll never forget how he expressed how proud he was of me. That was a great moment for me.”

JDW on the pandemic forcing him to relocate to his family home in LA with his parents:
“I was going to stay in Brooklyn,” he says. “[Then] my agent was like, ‘Oh, you need to get the heck out of there. Get to L.A.; the world’s coming to an end.’” Before he knew it, Washington found himself in his old room, one he hadn’t lived in since high school.

JDW on Malcolm & Marie:
“When [Malcolm & Marie] came along, it felt a bit like this might be the last thing I’ll ever get to do,” he says. “I went to that dramatic [place]. I was like, this is survival, but hey, if this is the last thing I get to do, I truly believe in it. I went from the biggest-budget film in my career [Tenet] to the lowest-budget film within a six-month time frame.”

Zendaya on JDW’s performance in Malcolm & Marie:
Now, becoming very close with JD, and knowing the kind of lovely, kind, calm person that he is—I’m just blown away with his work. It’s a f—ing performance, because that is not the John David I have grown to know. I don’t know where he went and how he did it, but it was incredible to watch. And I definitely think it helped me as an actress. It challenged me to work a little bit harder to match where he was.

JDW on exploring different characters:
As an actor, we don’t want to be boxed in. We don’t want to just be a spy in a spy thriller; we also want to play a villain. We don’t just want to just be a superhero. We want to play the antihero too.

Zendaya on the roles Sam Levinson has created for her:
This beautiful character of Rue—I don’t know if she is me in a different life. I don’t know if she’s my little sister. But I have a very close, special connection to her. She’s Sam, but she’s also a little bit of me in there. I found that Rue’s specific experiences may be different, but there’s a lot of similar emotional things. I care about her really deeply. I always feel like: There’s a little bit of hope if Sam turned out the way he turned out, which is an incredible person, [so] maybe Rue will be OK. And when it comes to Marie, I like to think that Sam was writing it for the person he has been able to know as I’m growing as a young woman. Maree is my middle name. She’s not necessarily me, but she was written for me. It’s very special.

WSJ. Magazine

JDW on how he and his character Malcolm deal with confrontation differently:
I keep the peace. I use full diplomacy. I don’t like confrontation. I think that the beauty about the relationship is, at least for Malcolm, some of his best material is probably coming from the confrontation, from their exchanges. But no, personally, I would not operate the same way Malcolm does in any kind of relationship.

Designer glasses for men 5 trends to watch out for in 2021
Image from EXTRA THINGS – Why Are Men Fascinated With Accessories?

One thing that can be said about fashion is that it’s always changing. With different styles going in and out of trend every season, it is often hard to keep up with the latest trends.

Eyeglasses are one such fashion item that also changes with trends. The technical improvements in the eyewear industry has made glasses comfortable and durable. But when we talk about frame styles, there are countless options to choose from.

If you take your designer glasses to be a significant part of your look, you must know what styles are in right now. However, if you don’t know what eyewear styles are going to flood the UK eyewear market this year, read this blog as we will tell you all.

If you think that men’s glasses are all about aviators and rectangular frames, you are wrong. Here are some frame styles to complete your look and turn heads everywhere you go.

Transparent frames

Do you love a no-glasses look? Do you chase after subtle frame styles? If yes, then transparent glasses would be a treat for you. It’s unique built in see-through design will work like a charm on every occasion. Whether you wear this frame to your office or to a date night, it will make you come across as sophisticated and elegant.

Transparent frames have been the chart topping designer glasses for men in the past few years. And from what it looks like, this style will be around for years to come. These glasses are a perfect choice for those who don’t like the hassle of buying eyewear according to their face shape and skin tone.

For an uncomplicated look, go for crystal frames. However, if you don’t mind the pop of colour in your accessory, transparent frames in warm hues are a good choice.

Designer glasses for men 5 trends to watch out for in 2021

Geometric glasses

If your style preference is somewhat edgy, geometric glasses are your thing. Designed in interesting shapes with multiple edges, geometric frames will help you stand out from the crowd.

Simple and edgy, geometric frames are made for your quirky side. However, if this style is too much for you to handle, go for rimless glasses in geometric shapes. This is the most sought-after style right now that steals attention like nothing else.

If your local eyewear store lacks this frame style, you can order them online. Some online stores will also give you next day glasses delivery in the UK.

Brow-line glasses

Classic brow-line frames in either black colour or tortoiseshell designs paired with the sustainability of titanium, metal or acetate make for a great pair for warm skin types.

If you have dark features, brow-line glasses will help you look your best. This style features a dark frame along the brow bone ending in thin temple arms.

An unforgettable style from the 1950s, brow-line frames will give you that intellectual vibe with a hint of masculinity.

Thick black frames

Black frames are meant to make the wearer look younger. If you are looking for a frame style that is in vogue and ideal for a professional environment, put this frame in your bucket list.

Although black frames have been around since the longest, the introduction of acetate and titanium has made them comfortable for everyday usage. Rock this frame to your next job interview to reflect professionalism. Whether formal or casual, rock this style when you want to be taken seriously.

Wooden glasses

Millennials have been shifting towards more sustainable options in eyewear and thus the rise of wooden glasses was bound to happen. Popular for being eco-friendly, even fashion-forward people are also shifting towards this style. Gone are the days when people had to put up with plastic frames. This new era is all about comfortable and eco-friendly frames.

Wooden frames have a soothing appeal to them and the smart manufacturing of these frames have made them durable. If you are not hesitant to try out a new style, give wooden frames a shot for an aesthetic appeal.

The conclusion

Men’s glasses are available in a variety of frame styles and shapes. To make sure that your look is relevant to 2021, take inspiration from these frames. But, whatever the frame you choose, make sure that it suits your face shape and skin tone.

If you want to go for all of these frames, look online to find good-quality glasses with special offers. This way, you will be able to save money on the purchase and get access to endless varieties.

Skincare Advice Tailored to a Man's Skin

One thing that is inevitable is ageing, it happens to us all, and there is no escape. Taking care of your skin can create an illusion of being younger than you are, but any advice on the Internet tends to be targeting the female population. While there is some crossover, a man’s skin can be quite different, and it’s essential that you tailor your daily routine to meet the needs of your skin no matter how old you are. Female guidance tends to focus a lot on applying makeup and removing it, and generally, that is less applicable to the male population. So, what is it that you should be doing to ensure that you take care of your skin as a bloke?

Looking After Your Skin

When you see other men on the television, you may wonder how they keep their skin looking so youthful. From film stars to news reporters, men who take the plunge and stand in front of the camera seemed to have the best-looking skin, so what is their secret? Well, they understand how important it is to clean and moisturise their skin well, and that through the changing years of life, the way we care for skin has to be evolving.

Skincare Advice Tailored to a Man's Skin

Twenty-Something Skin

If you’re reading this article and you’re in your 20s make the most of it! Youthful skin comes with a natural hydration and elastic quality because it has a lot of collagen. Of course, you do have to put up with the remnants of teenage spots, and this is because there is still natural oil in the skin which does sometimes work against you making you more prone to the occasional breakout. So, in your 20s skin care begins first thing in the morning by using a facial cleansing product that does not contain any oils, and then to protect your skin with an oil-free moisturiser that also includes an element of sunscreen. Even in winter, the rays of the sun can be damaging to the skin, so it’s important to protect it. At the end of a long day, you should once more cleanse and moisturise keeping the oil far away from your skin. Once or twice each week, you should also be exfoliating, as this will help keep your pores clean and fresh and reduce the risk of spots. Of course, you will need to shave as many times as is appropriate, so you should also invest in a high-quality shaving oil as these are designed to moisturise well which in turn helps prevent any ingrown hairs.

Skincare Advice Tailored to a Man's Skin

Thirty Something Skin

When you hit your 30s in skin terms the Clock has started ticking, it is now time to begin anti-ageing elements, and this includes vitamin A. Sadly this is when we begin to lose the collagen and the natural elasticity in the skin. Don’t give up on the sunscreen though as this is really important. Before bed, you should now start using overnight creams as these are brilliant for increasing that all-important collagen, so your vitamin A cream should include something with retinoids. You should also be considering a targeted eye product as you are now going to be more prone to larger black bags under the eyes even when you are sleeping well.

Over Forty Something Skin

The good news is by the time you reach your forties; you are much less likely to suffer from any acne outbreaks as there is now significantly less naturally occurring oil in the skin. This means it is also time to increase the moisturiser and using products with oil is currently advisable, so you can stop avoiding them. Your weapon of choice for more mature skin is hyaluronic acid, and this is a powerful product that can replace and help you to retain the moisture in your skin. Stick with the vitamin A but also add an antioxidant which can be found in the form of vitamin C. This means you should be increasing the amount of vitamin C you consume so a freshly squeezed orange for breakfast, but also using it on your face in the form of a vitamin C serum. Maintain the moisturiser and retinol, and these are especially useful after you have cleansed your face at night and are headed for bed.

Skincare Advice Tailored to a Man's Skin

Lifestyle Factors That Age Skin

Of course, there are other lifestyle factors that contribute to the early ageing of the skin, and this includes smoking and excess alcohol consumption. You should be eating a balanced diet that contains vegetables and fruits and ensuring you balance your coffee intake with an appropriate amount of water. Exercise plays a part, but conversely so does getting enough sleep. Always remembering that all-important sun cream will help your skin stay looking youthful for longer, especially on your face where you bear the brunt of the elements.

Models Jonas Glöer and Samer Rahma team up with Anok Yai, Mariacarla Boscono, and Maggie Cheng for Salvatore Ferragamo‘s Spring Summer 2021 video campaign directed by Oscar-nominated film maker Luca Guadagnino. The fashion film Life In Technicolor, set in the streets of Milan, was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s movies. The campaign fuses brand’s heritage of artistic artisanship with technical innovation. The story of SS21 collection, that was homage to both Hollywood and the city of Milan, is a masterpiece of suspenseful refinement.

Luca and I spent several hours going through the film we made for this collection frame by frame. It was a fascinating process that reminded me of pulling apart a made garment or vintage shoe to discover the secrets of its construction. What we discovered was that the stills – when we found the perfect moments of light, angle and focus – invited you to dwell on the qualities we’d worked to explore in the film; the texture and boldness of the collection, the interplay of the aesthetics between the construction of the accessories and the architecture of Milan, the impact of the Technicolor palette, and the mystery of the characters’ motives. We hope this portfolio will entice the onlooker to imagine themselves in this suspensefully chic milieu – and to see themselves wearing Ferragamo as the stars of their own intriguing life stories – Paul Andrew

In a continuation of last summer’s vibe, bespoke hallucinogenic prints suggest a trippie getaway, while a foray into flamboyant baroque prints underlines the striking allure of the Bluemarble boy. An exploration of fabrics, featuring heavy wools on varsity blazers, cable knit hybrids in a silky textural pairing, studded denim, shimmering silk finishes and feather-light winter fabrics – puffer jackets and fleece – wrap the whole collection in soft warmth to underscore the Bluemarble vibe this season: a giant leap into escapism, during these testing times.” – Bluemarble

The collection’s ethos is embodied by the “Zoooom with Friends” crew, imaginary characters that appear in various forms from oversized balloons to accessories. Each different to the other, the puppets represent the fundamental belief in inclusivity and multiculturalism embedded within the Louis Vuitton Men’s collections.” – From Louis Vuitton

Water, the core of AMI’s Spring-Summer 21 campaign, mirrors the setting and story of its latest show, staged on the riverbanks of the Seine in the heart of Paris, last October. The main characters play their part in a minimalist, enigmatic and intimate atmosphere. The campaign’s shots, both in color and black-and-white, perpetuate the theme of a group performance, an ensemble cast. The set is also reminiscent of the universe of cinema, an endless source of inspiration for Alexandre Mattiussi, AMI’s founder and creative director. Among the models, familiar faces of AMI’s chosen family, faithful talents who have collaborated with the brand over the last seasons: they embody and celebrate AMI’s long-standing values of friendship and equality, of love and inclusion.” – from AMI

Fashion brand UNIFORME showcased their Fall Winter 2021.22 Slow Down Collection with a digital presentation on Sunday January 24th, during the recently finished Paris Fashion Week. Designers Hugues Fauchard and Rémi Bats created minimalistic collection that was inspired by an idea – what if the world’s future leaders, graduates of these elite institutions, were required to study environmental protection?

Swinging by the natural sciences department, a special thematic grouping nods to the work of the American botanist John Ernest Weaver in the first half of the 20th century. An specialist in prairie fauna and the ecological relations of roots, the professor photographed his subjects extensively; on selected pieces, such as a revisited medical blouse and a hoodie in tailoring wool, his images now appear in positive and negative prints, a visual reminder of nature’s raw beauty. An oversized white mackintosh with side slits alludes to old-school lab coats. Adding to the versatility of these looks are removable knit collars, scarves that do double duty as hoods, and striped grosgrain arm bands that give shirts an extra shot of color.

Freedom, according to Maison Smalto, also means daring to turn one’s own codes upside down. The precious heritage of bespoke tailoring — the art of cutting, precision of workmanship and finishes — is put to good use to develop a contemporary and personal Parisian style: when Virgile Arndt wears his tuxedo without a bow tie, with cigarette pants in lambskin, his brother Elliott dons loose fitting pants with a tailored belt, a turtleneck and sneakers. On some striped poplins, the name of the House founder, Francesco Smalto, forms the signature chalk stripe. On some cashmere coats with cut-edge hems, Maison Smalto’s new logo is repeated endlessly in a jacquard pattern.

This season, the Maison Smalto atelier has developed a complete wardrobe with an emphasis on freedom of movement. Tailoring know-how combines with modern techniques and materials to create an ultra-comfortable wardrobe with a perfect fit. No need to oppose elegance and comfort anymore: at Maison Smalto, lightness and sophistication are combined in a casual-chic fashion that makes no concessions on style. The objective of the Parisian brand is to shape, throughout the seasons, a daring masculine allure anchored in its time – a certain attitude that does not allow itself to be confined to a codified and conventional category. Each piece in the collection, from cashmere jackets and sweaters to technical parkas and the classic suits, is designed to combine the nobility of tailoring with a strong sense of style.” – from Smalto

FALL WINTER 2021 MENSWEAR COLLECTIONS

Fashion show is the best platform for me to express what I have created and present the power of fashion that me and my team trusts in. For me to progress without fear will make my future and believe that this energy will convey on to the others. Without swaying on the trends I want to pursue creating the clothes with the punk mind. It is clear what I have to do now, to show my collection without fearing the changes. – Hiroaki Sueyasu
